Introducció a l’assignatura i contextualització dins de l’ensenyament
La alimentación, el comportamiento alimentario de los seres humanos, no puede reducirse a un hecho biológico o de nutrición, sino que tiene una dimensión cultural importante. Partiendo de esta premisa, la asignatura está planteada para ofrecer al alumnado una visión lo más completa posible de los factores sociales y culturales que condicionan la variabilidad y la diversidad de las pautas alimentarias en las diferentes sociedades a lo largo del tiempo. A tal fin, y dado que la materia se oferta en una titulación con un estudiantado poco familiarizado con las ciencias sociales, se priorizará el análisis de eso que convencionalmente denominamos como “cultura” y que constituye el “caparazón” que engloba y condiciona el hecho alimentario.
BASIC AND GENERAL COMPETENCES BASIC
CB1 - That students have demonstrated to possess and understand knowledge in an area of study that starts from the base of general secondary education, and is usually found at a level that, although supported by advanced textbooks, also includes some aspects they involve knowledge coming from the forefront of their field of study.
CB2 - That students know how to apply their knowledge to their work or vocation in a professional way and possess the skills that are usually demonstrated through the elaboration and defense of arguments and the resolution of problems within their area of study
CB3 - That students have the ability to gather and interpret relevant data (normally within their area of study) to make judgments that include a reflection on relevant issues of a social, scientific or ethical nature
CB4 - That students can transmit information, ideas, problems and solutions to both a specialized and non-specialized audience
CB5 - That students have developed those learning skills necessary to undertake further studies with a high degree of autonomy
GENERAL
CG1 - Recognize the essential elements of the dietitian-nutritionist profession, including ethical principles, legal responsibilities and the exercise of the profession, applying the principle of social justice to professional practice and developing it with respect to people, their habits, beliefs and cultures
CG2 - Develop the profession with respect to other health professionals, acquiring skills to work as a team
CG3 - Recognize one's own limitations and the need to maintain and update professional competence, giving special importance to autonomous and continuous learning of new knowledge, products and techniques in nutrition and food, as well as motivation for quality.
CG4 - Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people, health or industry professionals and the media, knowing how to use information and communication technologies, especially those related to nutrition and life habits.
CG5 - Know, critically assess and know how to use and apply information sources related to nutrition, food, lifestyles and health aspects CG6 - Know the limits of the profession and its skills, identifying when interdisciplinary treatment or referral to another professional is necessary.

CE6 - Know the different educational methods of application in health sciences, as well as the communication techniques applicable in food and human nutrition

CE17 - Coordinate, carry out and participate in the continuous training of professionals related to food and nutrition, on issues of food quality and safety

The subject combines face-to-face classes, in which the active participation of the students will be encouraged, with practical sessions based on group comments to emblematic texts in the field of the subject, and in the development of a small comparative research, also in groups , which will be socialized at the end of the course.
